Solution 1: Cultural events for the neighbourhood platform prototype
This project explores how hotels can move beyond being places only for tourists and become active, welcoming spaces for the people who live around them. In diverse neighborhoods across Amsterdam, many residents feel that hospitality spaces do not reflect their culture or invite their participation. By designing new ways for hotels to collaborate with local communities, this research aims to strengthen belonging, visibility, and everyday connections between residents and the places in their own neighbourhood.

Discover
The Discover phase allows residents to easily find cultural events taking place in hotels within their own neighbourhood. By entering a postal code or selecting a district, users can browse upcoming activities that are relevant to their local area and cultural interests. This makes community-based hospitality more visible and removes the barrier of not knowing what is happening or where to go.

Connect
The Connect phase focuses on strengthening relationships between hotels and local communities. By showcasing events that are rooted in neighbourhood culture, the platform helps hotels present themselves as open, welcoming spaces rather than tourist-only environments. This creates opportunities for meaningful interaction between residents, cultural groups, and hospitality providers.

Participate
The Participate phase enables residents to actively engage with events by signing up, attending, and sharing feedback. This transforms local people from passive observers into participants and co-creators of hospitality experiences. Over time, this builds trust, increases attendance, and supports the development of a more inclusive and community-oriented hospitality ecosystem.
