From Tourist City to Living Neighbourhood

Amsterdam welcomes more than 23 million overnight visitors and over 14 million day visitors every year, making it one of Europe’s most visited cities. While tourism plays a vital role in the city’s economy, it also places increasing pressure on residential neighbourhoods. Rising visitor numbers affect housing, public space, and everyday life — and many residents experience a growing distance between themselves and the hospitality spaces in their own streets.

Hotels are no longer just places for travellers. They are embedded in local communities and have the potential to become shared neighbourhood spaces where residents feel welcome, recognised, and connected. This is where a new form of hospitality begins: one that gives back to the city that hosts it.
